Private Yacht in the Ocean

A Guide To Working On A Private Yacht

Different Types of Yachts

Yachts come in all different shapes and sizes, but they can be classified into two main categories: power yachts and sail yachts. Power yachts are motorized and are ideal for those who prefer speed and luxury. Sail yachts, on the other hand, are propelled by wind and are perfect for those who love adventure and the thrill of sailing. Yachts can also be classified as single-owner or charter yachts. Single-owner yachts are owned by an individual or a family and are used for personal use. Charter yachts are owned by companies and are rented out to individuals or groups for vacations.

Power yachts generally range in size from 20 feet to well over 100 feet in length. The term “super yacht” is generally used to describe yachts that are over 100′ in length, and they are owned by ultra-high-net-worth individuals. Power yachts can be further classified into flybridge, sportfish, express, trawler, and motor yacht styles. Flybridge yachts have an open-air upper deck with a helm station, while sportfish yachts are designed for fishing enthusiasts with features such as rod holders and fish boxes. Express yachts have a sleek design with a low profile, while trawler yachts have a displacement hull that allows them to travel long distances at slower speeds. Motor yachts are the most luxurious type of power yacht with features such as multiple staterooms, gourmet kitchens, and entertainment systems.

Sail yachts also come in different sizes, ranging from 20 feet to over 100 feet in length. Likewise, a super yacht is considered to be any sailing yacht over 100′ in length. Sail yachts can be further classified into sloop, ketch, schooner, and catamaran styles. Sloop yachts have a single mast with one mainsail and one headsail, while ketch yachts have two masts with a larger mainsail and a smaller mizzen sail. Schooner yachts have two or more masts with fore-and-aft sails on the aftmost mast(s), while catamaran yachts have two hulls that provide more stability and space.

Private vs. Charter Jobs

There are two main types of yachts: private and charter. Private yachts are owned by individuals or families and are used for personal use. Charter yachts, on the other hand, are owned by companies and are rented out to individuals or groups for vacations.

Working on a private yacht is different from working on a charter yacht. Private yacht jobs are more stable and offer long-term employment opportunities. The crew members work for the same owner for an extended period of time and get to know the owner’s preferences and needs. They also get to travel to exotic locations with the owner and their family.

Charter yacht jobs, on the other hand, offer more variety in terms of destinations and guests. The crew members work with different guests every week or month and have to adapt to their preferences and needs. Charter yacht jobs can be more lucrative than private yacht jobs as they offer more opportunities for tips.

Woman Looking Around As The World Moves Quickly Around Her

The world is spinning faster every day.

Employment has changed drastically the past few years—how we work, the type of work we do, and even where we work. Yet, while the world adapts, solutions for hiring private staff seem to be stuck in the past.

At Old State Staffing, we believe the status quo is not enough, and that those who decide now is the time to settle will be left behind. In the face of great change, tinkering around the edges simply won’t do. Since Day 1, our approach has been built on four key principles:

1. Developing A Quality Product

We’ve built Old State Staffing from the ground up, implementing the same cutting-edge recruiting tools used by the nation’s largest family offices. Historically inaccessible to smaller clients, these tools improve the tracking and management of talent, utilize machine learning for smarter searches, and intuitively compare compensation and qualification benchmarks both regionally and nationally. This allows us to find and match families with the best candidates quicker and more efficiently than ever before.

2. Building A Great Team

We knew from the start that our team would be our greatest differentiator. That’s because our agency is composed entirely of family office professionals who know what exceptional candidates look like; because we’ve applied to, managed, and hired for each of those positions ourselves.

3. Creating Meaningful Relationships

Building and maintaining relationships is important today, more than ever before. We place immense value on our relationships, not just with our clients, but our candidates, and the community at large. We spent our “pandemic years” building partnerships with local universities, to open the doors of private staffing to recent college graduates in the most educated metropolitan area in the world.

4. Refusing To Settle

Change is inevitable, yet private staffing has historically lagged in both hiring and employment standards. We’ve always been disruptors, first to adopt AI and machine learning—ensuring smarter, faster, more accurate matches for our clients.

We know that choosing an agency is a personal decision, and we’re honored for the time you have spent considering us as a partner in your search. If you haven’t spoken to us yet, let me be the first to say that we can’t wait to introduce you to our contacts, to guide you through the hiring process, and to introduce you to the perfect candidate. We know the stakes are high, but so are the rewards. With Old State Staffing you’ll be empowered to make informed, meaningful hiring decisions, so you can continue to thrive in a world that’s spinning faster every day.
