About The Job

A retired couple in Bethesda, MD is seeking a meticulous and experienced Laundress to provide expert care for their clothing, linens, and household laundry. This is a full-time position for a professional who understands fine garment care, fabric-specific laundering techniques, and wardrobe organization.

 

The role includes handling all laundry and wardrobe-related responsibilities, including washing, pressing, steaming, mending, and organizing. The couple values a high standard of presentation and cleanliness, and are looking for someone who is attentive, proactive, and takes pride in their work. The schedule will consist of five working days per week, including one weekend day and four weekdays.

Responsibilities

  • Full-service laundry care for clothing and household linens
  • Washing, drying, steaming, and pressing garments according to care instructions
  • Handwashing delicate and specialty items as needed
  • Spot-treating stains and identifying garments requiring special attention
  • Managing seasonal wardrobe rotation and closet organization
  • Mending minor damage, such as loose buttons or small tears
  • Organizing and maintaining laundry supplies and keeping laundry spaces tidy
  • Maintaining wardrobe systems and advising on items needing dry cleaning or replacement
  • Communicating with household staff to support overall home operations
  • Maintaining discretion, professionalism, and care in all tasks

Must Haves

  • You are an experienced Laundress with a strong knowledge of fine fabric care and laundry best practices.
  • You are highly detail-oriented, organized, and take pride in polished, professional results.
  • You understand the importance of discretion and are comfortable working in a private, staffed household.
  • You’re self-motivated, efficient, and able to manage your own workflow with minimal oversight.
  • You bring a calm, dependable presence to your work and enjoy being a behind-the-scenes contributor to a well-run home.

About You

  • 3–5+ years of experience as a Laundress in a private household or similar setting
  • Expertise in laundering and caring for fine garments and linens
  • Familiarity with luxury wardrobe care, specialty fabrics, and stain treatment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with basic mending, steaming, and ironing
  • Ability to maintain household standards with minimal supervision
  • Professional demeanor, discretion, and reliability
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.
  • References and background check required

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly rate of $35–$45/hour, commensurate with experience
  • Full-time schedule: 5 days/week, including 1 weekend day
  • Paid time off, including vacation and sick days
  • Reimbursement for work-related expenses
  • Potential for benefits after trial period
