Individuals in these roles may possess specialized training in areas like executive protection, threat assessment, evasive driving, etc.

Primary responsibilities may include greeting and screening visitors, residents and staff, installing and monitoring electronic security systems, performing perimeter patrols, reviewing and optimizing security policies and procedures, and providing security training to family members, staff or visitors. • Ability to adjust to the changing needs and situations of the principal(s) and their environment, reacting to unexpected challenges and modifying their actions accordingly.

Concierge Security is responsible for undergoing appropriate training and certification/licensing based on the state in which they work. Security guard certification typically includes coursework on making arrests, de-escalation/ethical restraint, threat assessment, physical security fundamentals, civil rights and criminal/private property law. Physical assessment is typically not required to obtain security certification, but requirements vary from state to state.

If work duties involve carrying a firearm, a Wear and Carry Permit or Concealed Carry Permit is required and should be renewed throughout the term of an officer’s employment. Depending on the state, a firearm permit may involve obtaining an employer’s explicit permission, meaning that security may need to be hired before registering to carry a firearm. Additional certifications that Private Security may obtain include:

  • Handcuff, OC Spray and Baton Certification
  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP)
  • Executive Protection Training
  • Evasive Driving Certificate

Responsibilities for Concierge Security vary depending on a principal’s needs, but commonly include:

  • Preparing incident reports, documenting relevant information and actions taken, and making recommendations to prevent future incidents
  • Using physical force, unarmed combat and/or weapons as a last resort

Characteristics of a successful Executive/Private Security Agent include:

Professional security expertise

Above all, security professionals should have a strong background and expertise in security protocols and procedures such as threat assessment, risk mitigation, surveillance, counter-surveillance and defensive tactics. They should be professional and act with integrity in all their actions, following the rules and standards of their profession as well as the principal(s).

Discretion and confidentiality

Private Security should be able to maintain discretion and confidentiality, protecting the principal’s privacy and reputation at all times. They should not disclose sensitive or personal information about the principal or their security operations unless authorized or required by law. They should also be able to blend in and remain as unobtrusive as possible, while still providing effective security.

Adaptability and flexibility

Security personnel should be able to adapt and adjust quickly to changing scenarios and environments, and be able to think quickly and creatively to solve problems and make decisions under pressure. They should also be open and willing to learn new skills and techniques, as well as to incorporate the client’s values and culture into their service.

Communication skills

Private Security should be capable of communicating effectively and professionally with the client, other members of the security team and law enforcement or security personnel. They should also be able to communicate diplomatically and respectfully with the public, especially in sensitive or hostile situations, while always staying calm and collected.

Total compensation for Concierge Security ranges from $90-150K. Factors that command a higher salary include prior experience in the military, law enforcement or private investigation, experience managing large-scale security operations or teams, firearm certification, willingness to travel or work outside of normal hours and fluency in languages other than English. Components of Concierge Security’s compensation may include:

Base salary

A fixed annual amount received for performing duties as agreed upon. A Private Security Agent’s base salary varies depending on the experience required, scope of their duties and time commitment necessary in the role.

Discretionary bonus

Discretionary bonuses are variable amounts that are paid annually based on an individual’s performance. The percentage of compensation paid as a salary versus a bonus is entirely up to the employer, but for Concierge Security, a discretionary bonus can range anywhere from 10 – 20% of total compensation. The most common reason for a higher bonus percentage (relative to salary) is to tie an employee’s compensation to their overall performance. It also allows an employer to set strategic goals during the employee’s annual performance evaluation, with the pay out of their bonus linked to the completion of stated goals.

Concierge Security typically has access to the following corporate-style benefits (or receives a stipend to obtain such benefits themselves):

Medical, dental and vision

Standard health benefits help employees stay healthy, reduce absenteeism and ultimately increase productivity.

Retirement savings account

401k, thrift savings plan or simple IRA, especially with employer matched contributions, shows your employees your commitment to their future.

Paid time off

PTO allows your employees to take time off from work for various reasons, such as vacation, sickness, personal matters or holidays.

Travel/miscellaneous expenses

Expenses incurred when travelling or conducting business on behalf of the house. Expenses include transportation, accommodations, meals and other costs related to business travel and may be reimbursed or covered by an allowance or budget.

Additional benefits are often included to enhance the attractiveness of an employment offer, as well as encouraging long-term employment. Such benefits include:

Education

  • Tuition reimbursement, scholarships/savings plans for those with college-aged children

Professional development

  • Encouraging and covering an employee’s participation in training courses, workshops, seminars, conferences or professional certifications

Woman Looking Around As The World Moves Quickly Around Her

The world is spinning faster every day.

Employment has changed drastically the past few years—how we work, the type of work we do, and even where we work. Yet, while the world adapts, solutions for hiring private staff seem to be stuck in the past.

At Old State Staffing, we believe the status quo is not enough, and that those who decide now is the time to settle will be left behind. In the face of great change, tinkering around the edges simply won’t do. Since Day 1, our approach has been built on four key principles:

1. Developing A Quality Product

We’ve built Old State Staffing from the ground up, implementing the same cutting-edge recruiting tools used by the nation’s largest family offices. Historically inaccessible to smaller clients, these tools improve the tracking and management of talent, utilize machine learning for smarter searches, and intuitively compare compensation and qualification benchmarks both regionally and nationally. This allows us to find and match families with the best candidates quicker and more efficiently than ever before.

2. Building A Great Team

We knew from the start that our team would be our greatest differentiator. That’s because our agency is composed entirely of family office professionals who know what exceptional candidates look like; because we’ve applied to, managed, and hired for each of those positions ourselves.

3. Creating Meaningful Relationships

Building and maintaining relationships is important today, more than ever before. We place immense value on our relationships, not just with our clients, but our candidates, and the community at large. We spent our “pandemic years” building partnerships with local universities, to open the doors of private staffing to recent college graduates in the most educated metropolitan area in the world.

4. Refusing To Settle

Change is inevitable, yet private staffing has historically lagged in both hiring and employment standards. We’ve always been disruptors, first to adopt AI and machine learning—ensuring smarter, faster, more accurate matches for our clients.

We know that choosing an agency is a personal decision, and we’re honored for the time you have spent considering us as a partner in your search. If you haven’t spoken to us yet, let me be the first to say that we can’t wait to introduce you to our contacts, to guide you through the hiring process, and to introduce you to the perfect candidate. We know the stakes are high, but so are the rewards. With Old State Staffing you’ll be empowered to make informed, meaningful hiring decisions, so you can continue to thrive in a world that’s spinning faster every day.
